Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency

Explore the Obstetrics & Gynecology Residency at Cedars-Sinai

About Our Department

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has a nationally recognized faculty. Both the department and Cedars-Sinai consider residency education to be a major responsibility and priority.

The department has four divisions: Maternal-Fetal Medicine; Gynecologic Oncology; Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility; and Gynecologic Specialties, which include family planning and minimally invasive surgery. In addition, Cedars-Sinai has more than 100 private obstetrics and gynecology attending physicians who serve as voluntary teaching faculty and represent all specialties and generalists on the medical staff. Thus, our training program benefits from diverse and high-volume services.

Other departmental activities that support residency training include fellowships in gynecologic oncology, reproductive endocrinology and maternal-fetal medicine; medical student clerkship rotation for UCLA medical students; and sub-internships. Research activity in all subspecialties, with many research projects funded by the National Institutes of Health, provides ample opportunity for resident participation and research mentorship.

Facilities & Resources

Cedars-Sinai has one of the largest obstetrical patient populations and one of the largest maternal fetal care units in California. There are approximately 7,000 deliveries per year at Cedars-Sinai, with more than 10,000 annual admissions related to pregnancy. Residents monitor the care of all patients admitted to Cedars-Sinai for labor management and antepartum problems, and they actively manage and deliver the patients on the teaching service with attending physician supervision.

Cedars-Sinai also has one of the largest gynecologic surgical volumes in the Los Angeles metropolitan area, with about 3,000 gynecologic admissions and more than 5,000 surgical procedures performed each year. Residents are encouraged to be involved with all admissions and surgical opportunities with faculty and private attending staff. They are actively involved in learning innovative surgical techniques, including advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery.
